It's not what happens to us in life that makes a difference. It is how we react to each problem we encounter that determines the results!
There are 10 children in my family; we were raised to believe in God’s unlimited power, and continue to believe. I was child no. 9 and I started my first business at age 16 while attending high school.
I remember how I started. They say that “necessity is the mother of invention” and how fast I learned that to be true as a young kid! My family dealt with the shock of Dad having cancer, requiring a radical neck dissection, and while Mom was making every effort to meet the overhead, she suffered a heart attack.
Dad always taught us that the secret to success was to “find a need and fill it”, and my challenge was on. At this point in my life I was going to school full time, playing on the Junior Varsity Football Team, as well as the Varsity Wrestling Team.
I began to work after school and on the weekends with a couple of friends mowing lawns and weeding, digging ditches for sprinklers, along with holes for posts, cleaning out garages, hauling junk to the dump, cleaning out corrals and moving furniture. My business subsequently grew to 21 students working hard on a daily basis.
Eventually, I earned enough income to help Mom and expand my business to buy some equipment being requested by my customers. My first investment was buying a large truck to help people move. Some of the equipment was acquired by trading our services with customers, and other equipment was purchased from our customers.
Later I acquired a used tractor and a bush hog to cut weeds for customers with large parcels of land. Then along came a rototiller, utilized to prepare the ground for either new landscaping or gardening.
Is this really different? Was this the first time its been done? Almost anything that is being done today can be done differently. The difference with Leaders Without Limits, in this highly competitive world, is that local entrepreneurship fosters economic innovation and prosperity.
I was raised with high self-esteem because we were always taught that God loves us, and regardless of our stress, there are UNLIMITED possibilities in every stressful situation, when we have faith in our Heavenly Father.
It’s one thing to adopt a business name, switch on the lights and hang a sign on the wall. It’s quite another to stay in business. The challenge in business, as in life, is not to begin bravely, but to persist and prosper.
I will always remember how proud I am for this opportunity to be associated with Leaders Without Limits and the numerous business members I have met and provided asset protection strategies to. I would like to remind you of our slogan, “IF WE CAN CHANGE OUR THINKING…WE CAN CHANGE OUR LIVES.” Always remember, If your business is worth striving for, it’s worth protecting.
